The much-awaited senior international debut of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will have to wait a little longer after the 15-year-old was not included in India's playing XI for the first T20I against Ireland national cricket team in Belfast.
Despite widespread anticipation following his remarkable performances in domestic and India A cricket, the Indian team management chose to stick with its settled top-order combination rather than make changes for the opening match of the series. Captain Shreyas Iyer confirmed at the toss that Sooryavanshi was not part of the playing XI, indicating that team balance and continuity were the primary reasons behind the decision.
Earlier, batting coach Sitanshu Kotak had also emphasized that the youngster should not be handed an opportunity at the expense of players who are already performing well. With India's opening pair and batting unit enjoying recent success, the management preferred not to disrupt a winning combination.
Sooryavanshi remains one of India's brightest young prospects after his record-breaking performances at youth and India A level, and his exclusion from the first T20I is viewed as a temporary decision rather than a setback. With another match remaining in the series, the teenager could still earn his maiden India cap if the team management decides to rotate the squad.
