West Indies batter Amir Jangoo admitted that words were not enough to describe his emotions after producing one of the finest innings by a Caribbean batter in recent years. The left-hander smashed 233 runs from 373 deliveries during the first Test against Sri Lanka at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua, helping the hosts seize complete control of the contest.
The remarkable innings came under unexpected circumstances. Jangoo was drafted into the playing XI only after Shai Hope suffered an injury on the eve of the Test. Making just his second appearance in the format, the 28-year-old grabbed the opportunity with both hands and produced the highest Test score by a West Indies batter since Marlon Samuels' 260 against Bangladesh in 2012.

Speaking after the end of Day 3, Jangoo said he was delighted with his achievement but remained focused on winning the Test match.
"Words can't describe how I feel right now. But we still have a Test match to win, and I'm happy I could contribute to putting the team in a strong position."
His innings featured 19 fours and three sixes, displaying immense patience and concentration over nearly nine hours at the crease.
The batting formula behind his success
Jangoo also revealed the simple approach that has worked throughout his first-class career. According to the left-hander, surviving the early phase of an innings is the key to converting starts into big scores.
He explained that once he reaches around 20 runs after facing 40–50 deliveries, he gains confidence to build a substantial innings. Batting coach Floyd Reifer had also stressed the importance of making a solid start, advice that proved invaluable during his career-best knock.
Record partnership with Roston Chase
One of the biggest highlights of the innings was Jangoo's 401-run partnership with captain Roston Chase for the sixth wicket, the highest sixth-wicket stand in Test cricket history. While Jangoo scored 233, Chase contributed a magnificent 194, ending a long wait for a Test century.
Jangoo praised his captain, saying the dressing room always believed in Chase's ability despite his recent struggles with the bat.
